Surety x HOME for Supporting Domestic Workers Through Midlife and Menopause : “Now I Know What I’m Going Through.”

At Surety, we are committed to advancing inclusive midlife health education — particularly around topics that remain misunderstood, under-discussed, or inaccessible to many.

One such topic is (peri)menopause.

In collaboration with the Humanitarian Organisation for Migration Economics (HOME), we recently hosted an in-person event titled “Supporting Migrant Women Through Midlife & Menopause.

Together with our partners at HOME, we created a community session that blended:

  • Medical education by Dr June Sheren (Medical Doctor, Tucker Medical)

  • Mind-body therapy with Hilda Xie (Founder, MaunaYug),  blending breath and mindfulness work with functional movement

  • Open conversations in our Signature Carousel Themed Chats, where participants could discuss symptoms and coping strategies in a safe and supportive setting

Dr June's ability to explain complex medical concepts in simple terms was instrumental in helping participants feel empowered and informed — many for the first time.

This initiative was grounded in one simple but powerful belief: All women, regardless of background, deserve to understand and care for their bodies during every life stage.

Understanding the Gaps

In the lead-up to the session, we conducted a pre-event survey with the participants, and they highlighted important gaps:

  • Under 9% of respondents had ever received formal menopause education.

  • Most participants had rated their familiarity with menopause as low.

  • A majority felt uncomfortable discussing menopause-related challenges with their employers.

  • The most commonly recognised symptoms were hot flashes, mood swings, and joint pain, while awareness of cognitive or emotional symptoms remained low.

These insights confirmed the need for a programme that is both educational and empathetic — one that meets women where they are, in language and tone that is accessible, non-judgmental, and relevant.

A Multidimensional Approach

Hilda offered tangible, culturally inclusive tools that women could use independently — especially valuable for those with limited access to formal care.

The session was structured to delivery a holistic approach to midlife and menopause care, combining:

  • Clinical education,

  • Movement and mindfulness, and

  • Small group conversations

Where participants engaged deeply with the content, asked thoughtful questions, and shared personal experiences — many for the first time.

During the Session: Reframing Menopause with Dr. June Sheren

Dr June's ability to explain complex medical concepts in simple terms was instrumental in helping participants feel empowered and informed — many for the first time.

Our speaker, Dr. June Sheren (Family Physician, Medical Advisor at Surety) delivered a powerful and accessible presentation titled “Take Charge of Your Menopause.”

Here’s what she covered:

  • What happens hormonally during perimenopause and menopause

  • Common symptoms ranging from hot flashes, insomnia, and mood swings to vaginal dryness, joint pain, and brain fog

  • The connection between hormonal changes and other chronic issues such as osteoporosis, cardiovascular risk, and mental health

  • Self-care strategies including hydration, symptom tracking, mindful breathing, and movement

  • An overview of treatment options including hormonal therapies, non-hormonal approaches like proper food intake.

How We Impacted Women

We conducted a post-event survey with the attendees to assess impact:

  • 96% reported their understanding of menopause improved

  • 100% felt more equipped to support themselves or others through this life stage

  • 84% said the session addressed misconceptions they previously held

  • 92% rated the session a full 5 out of 5

The session not only improved knowledge — it also helped shift mindsets. Several women shared that they now feel more confident recognising their symptoms and seeking help when needed.

Gratitudes

We are grateful to each attendee for their openness and participation. We thank our partners at HOME for their invaluable collaboration and shared commitment to health equity. Our sincere appreciation goes to Dr. June Sheren and Hilda Xie for delivering content that was not only informative, but also empowering and compassionate.

Because when you invest in women’s midlife health, you empower entire communities.

As a company dedicated to reimagining women’s midlife care, we view this event as a significant step in addressing both the knowledge gap and the cultural silence surrounding menopause in migrant communities.

We remain committed to scaling these efforts — whether in workplaces, community spaces, or digital platforms — to ensure that all women have the resources, language, and support they need to thrive during midlife.
