Celebrate IWD 2025 with us: Midlife Wellness in Asia Now!

Updated: Apr 7

On 29 March 2025, Surety hosted our very own International Women's Day 2025: AcceleratHER: Midlife Wellness In Motion! Held at the Mandala Club, the event brought together medical professionals, industry experts, and individuals passionate about redefining midlife health and menopause wellness.

Setting the Stage for Wellness

The event featured a compelling sharing by Dr. Sundus Hussain-Morgan, insightful discussions, and interactive wellness sessions. Attendees were engaged in expert-led talks and carousel themed chats that were designed to equip them with the tools and knowledge needed to navigate midlife transitions with confidence. Additionally, participants had the opportunity to experience a Sound Bath session, promoting relaxation and mindfulness, as well as explore various booths offering resources and services related to midlife wellness.

#Accelerating Midlife Wellness

The event officially kicked off with an energising chair stretch session, helping participants ease into the day with mindful movement. This was followed by a calming Sound Bath experience, setting the tone for relaxation and self-care.

Relaxation practices like Sound Bath can help regulate stress, improve sleep, and promote overall well-being, reminding us that midlife wellness is also about embracing self-care and mindfulness.

Menopause Insights with Dr Sundus

Dr Sundus, a General Practitioner with over 20 years of clinical experience and a founding member of the Singapore Society of Lifestyle Medicine, led an informational session on understanding menopause and its impact.

Speaker presentation
"Midlife wellness is about proactive self-care - nourishing the body, staying active, managing stress, and building strong social connections to thrive through menopause and beyond."

She emphasised that menopause is not just about hormonal changes but a critical phase that affects physical, mental, and emotional health. The audience engaged in discussions about perimenopause, menopause, and post-menopause, covering various management strategies.

Dr Sundus described an evidence-based approach to self-care and chronic disease prevention, emphasizing on the six pillars of health as critical in optimising midlife wellness:

  • Nutrition: Eating a balanced, anti-inflammatory diet rich in whole foods supports hormonal balance and bone health.

  • Movement: Regular exercises, including strength training and cardio, helps maintain muscle, bone density, and overall vitality.

  • Sleep: Prioritising quality sleep supports cognitive functions, emotional well-being, and hormonal regulation.

  • Stress Management: Mindfulness, meditation, and relaxation techniques help regulate stress and improve overall health.

  • Social Connections: Strong relationships provide emotional support, reducing stress and enhancing well-being.

  • Reducing Harmful Substances: Limiting alcohol, smoking, and toxins lowers the risk of chronic diseases and promotes longevity.

To support midlife wellness, attendees were encouraged to adopt an anti-inflammatory diet rich in calcium, vitamin D, and phytoestrogens while reducing processed foods and caffeine. In addition to nutrition, incorporating strength training, prioritising quality sleep, and practicing mindfulness were emphasised as key lifestyle habits for sustaining overall health and well-being.

We Stand As One

One of the most impactful moments of the event was the carousel themed chats, where attendees shared their personal experiences and concerns surrounding midlife health and menopause. Common themes included managing hot flashes, mental well-being, and hormonal fluctuations.

Discussion

"We come from diverse cultures and we started sharing about different alternatives that worked for us to manage menopausal symptoms."

Inspiring Voices in Midlife Empowerment

For the final segment, two inspiring midlife champions shared how they uplift the midlife community.

Embracing midlife as a time for growth and reinvention, our partner, Alice Au, Prime Midlife Coach and Founder of The Life Redesign Academy, shared how redefining midlife became her source of empowerment.

Speaker presentation

This realisation inspired her to establish The Life Redesign Academy, empowering others to reclaim and redefine midlife on their own terms, both individually and within their communities.

"I will write my stories myself. I'm going to redesign my life by telling myself that I construct my own facts."

Psst, stay tuned, as we'll be collaborating on an exciting upcoming project!

Building on the theme of midlife empowerment, another inspiring partner, Jenny Lee, Founder and CEO of Clover Enterprise Pte Ltd, highlighted the vital role of community, education, and resources in navigating the midlife journey.

Speaker presentation

She encouraged women to embrace this transition together.

"Let's put our hands, our brains, and our passion to create our dream towards a better life for all!"

A Blend of Science & Self-Discovery

The event concluded with a mingling session, allowing attendees to connect, exchange insights, and build lasting support networks. This was accompanied by a demonstration health session from Oriental Remedies Clinic, where participants experienced TCM healing techniques that support midlife wellness.

A Tarot card reading experience added a fun and reflective element, giving attendees the chance to gain personal insights, embrace self-discovery, and find inspiration for the next chapter of their midlife journey.

Building A Community That Supports

With this year's IWD theme "Accelerate Action", Surety aims to normalize conversations around (peri)menopause and midlife, address personal and workplace challenges, and promote holistic midlife well-being. Through an empowering and informative event, participants left with a renewed perspective on how to embrace midlife with strength, knowledge, and community support.

"I'm grateful that there's more education, information, and awareness on this due journey and what most women are going through. It's very important that we have started this community and we continue to listen and connect with professionals that have created a safe space for us."

Midlife can often feel isolating, but the event underscored the importance of building strong social connections. A key takeaway was the need for "finding your tribe" - support groups, professional networks, or even close-knit friendships, to foster emotional resilience and well-being during midlife transitions.
