Stepping into Serenity

On the morning of 26th January 2025, our community ladies, led by Nasrin, gathered at Jurong Lake Gardens, ready to embark on a journey - not just through nature, but within themselves.

This wasn't just another nature walk. it was a chance to reconnect, reflect, and reset - a guided experience designed to embrace mindfulness, understand mood changes, and cultivate self-awareness. With nature as their backdrop, they explored new ways to navigate emotions, especially through the challenges of midlife and menopause.

What followed was a morning of powerful realisations, deep breathing, and creative expression, leaving each participant with a newfound appreciation for the healing power of nature.

A Walk to Remember: Mindfulness in Motion

The first activity was a guided nature walk, accompanied by an audio guide prepared by Nasrin. Each step was an invitation to slow down, tune in, and notice the world around them.

For many, it was a rare opportunity to simply be present.

"I never realised how much I rush through life until I slowed down today."

Some even discovered how a simple walk could be a tool for emotional regulation

“I learned that when emotions get heated, stepping outside can be a way to cool off and think more clearly."

Breathing in Calm, Breathing Out Stress

The group gathered at a sheltered spot overlooking the river for a mindfulness breathing session. Following a soothing YouTube guide, they closed their eyes and turned their focus inward.

With each inhale, they invited calm; With each exhale, they let go of stress

Some noticed how their bodies physically held onto tension - and how, with intention, they could release it. Others found a new sense of clarity, as if their minds had been gently reset.

"I never paid attention to how my breathing affects my emotions - now i see how powerful it is."

Crafting with Nature: Emotions Expressed in Art for Mental Well-being

Using fallen leaves, branches, and flowers, participants crafted art pieces that represented their inner journey. The theme? Emotions experienced during midlife and menopause.

Words like hope, courage, and resilience become the inspiration behind their creations.

Why crafting? Because art is healing. It allows emotions to be expressed, processed, and understood - without needing words. By the end, each piece told a story.

"This made me realize how much beauty there is in change."

The Bigger Picture: What We Learned

This session was more than a one-time experience - it planted seeds for lasting change.

  • Mindfulness works. A simple breath, a quiet moment, a slowed-down walk - small actions can make a big difference.

  • Nature heals. Participants felt more connected, more grounded, and more appreciative of the world around them.

  • Self-care is essential. Women navigating midlife and menopause deserve intentional time to nurture their emotional well-being.

Many participants expressed a commitment to continuing their mindfulness journey - taking more nature walks, practicing breathing exercises, and prioritising moments of stillness.

"It can be overwhelming to experience multiple changes and not knowing where to start and feel better," Nasrin shares. "But so long as we start somewhere and take our steps, it gets easier. It's about small, mindful shifts."
